Often called the “Roof Garden of Pennsylvania,” Somerset is known for its agricultural industry as well as its proximity to Mount Davis, the highest point in the state. Our borough was settled in 1795 and incorporated in 1804, and as of 2019, had an estimated population of 5,855. Full of history, Somerset is home to two locations listed on the National Register of Historic Places: the Somerset County Courthouse and the Uptown Somerset Historic District. Somerset, too, was the central site for the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. In 2006, a crater on Mars was named after Somerset.
